The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced in June that a Dynanet-led team has won a 4.5 year, $42 million contract to maintain and enhance its Common Working File (CWF) system. CWF performs benefit coordination and pre-payment claims validation for Medicare Part A (hospital and nursing care) and Part B (doctor visits, lab tests, and medical equipment). CWF’s 2.5+ million lines of COBOL and batch program code, CICS transaction processing middleware, and VSAM data structure process over 1 billion claims per year.
Dynanet partnered with DV United, and incumbents MAXIMUS Federal, Superior Solutions, and Companion Data Services to win the contract. About 20 people from the previous team of 50+ project managers, business analysts, software engineers, and other professionals are now Dynanet employees. Under the new contract, they will provide:
- Program management and reporting
- Quarterly software release management
- Requirements analysis of change requests and new features
- Software design, development, and testing
- Configuration/data management and documentation
- Production support
- Security
- Quality assurance and process improvement, following CMMI Maturity Level 5 practices
CMS is the largest purchaser of healthcare in the United States. As part of the Department of Health and Human Services, it administers Medicare, a Federal health insurance program for senior citizens, the disabled, and those diagnosed with chronic renal disorders. CWF enables national standardization of Medicare claims processing at multiple data centers throughout the United States.
